Douglas E. Brinley
Dr. Brinley is a Family Life specialist in the
areas of marriage and parenting. He is a professor at Brigham Young
University in the Department of Church History and Doctrine. His Doctorate is
in Family Studies. He is the author of ten books, 9 of which are on marriage
and family relations. Between Husband and Wife: Gospel Perspectives on
Marital Intimacy has been a best-seller in the Church over the past five
years. Dr. Brinley speaks at Education Week in Provo and
at BYU-Idaho each year. He is a member of the AMCAP board and presents
periodically on matters of marriage and marriage counseling to professional
counselors.
He is a specialist in the area of
dating/courtship, marriage, marital problems, parenting, and the family as a
part of the larger social order.
He has served as a mission president in the Texas Dallas Mission from 1987-1990. He
now teaches a class on LDS Marriage and Family
at BYU along with a Doctrines of the Gospel course.
He has presented at a number of Women's Conferences, Stake Priesthood Meetings, and has traveled extensively speaking to LDS groups about
doctrinal therapy. His premise is that of President Boyd K. Packer: "The
study of doctrine will change behavior quicker than will the study of behavior
change behavior."
