Helping Individuals Who Want to
Diminish Same Gender Desires And Stop Same Gender Sexual Behavior
The purpose of this
Guidebook is two fold. The first one is to provide the essential steps to
those who are helping individuals who want to diminish same gender desires
and stop same gender sexual behavior. Second is to assist clergy in
organizing a support network for individuals who want to diminish same
gender desires and eliminate same sexual gender behavior.
Those who are closely
assisting a person overcome homosexual behavior are referred to as
caregivers in this Guidebook. An effective caregiver is someone who has
good judgment, good relationship skills, spirituality, and the ability to
give support to others.
Often clergy will be the
primary caregiver for an individual who desires to eliminate same gender
behavior.
With an individual’s
consent, clergy may also invite additional caregivers such as a capable
family member, a member of the congregation, or friend to assist. The
steps in the guidebook can be completed at any pace.
This booklet has three
parts. First is a Checklist For Clergy.
This is a simple list of goals to assist Clergy in monitoring a
caregiver’s progress through the Guidebook steps. Second is the
Guide For Caregivers. This Guide
provides steps and necessary information for a caregiver to help someone
diminish same gender desires and stop same gender sexual behavior. The
last section is the Appendix. The Appendix contains resources for
the caregiver including: Principles for
Interviewing and
Handouts.
