Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are characterized by fear of weight gain, feelings of ineffectiveness and low self-esteem. Binge-eating disorder, or compulsive eating, is described as food intake that tends to be emotionally "driven" to the point of physical discomfort and is typically experienced as comforting to the person. Eating disorders are considered mental illnesses.
